I bought a through-hole ‘variety’ resistor pack from Amazon some time ago and received thousands of resistors from 1Ω through hundreds of MΩ. The problem became one of storing them in a way that made them accessible and easy to find the right value.
My solution was to use CD sleeves to store the resistors, one sleeve per value. Then I made a box to ‘file’ the sleeves, in resistance order. To make getting to the right range easier I used separator tabs at 1Ω, 100Ω, 1kΩ, etc. Works like a charm and I can get to any specific value very quickly.
